Water Well
When buying a country home, the quality of your water and the permanency of your water source are vital. Not all water is drinkable and wells can dry up or the water levels drop. I recommend that a buyer have the well tested for both quality and for amount of production.

Well water comes from underground and there are minerals down there; lots of different kinds. You want to be sure the water does not contain minerals or bacterial agents that are unhealthy. A water well service can test the water. They can also test the well head to be sure it is sealed and no foreign matter from the surface can penetrate the well.

They can also measure your water production. How much water is enough? It depends on what your needs are; a hobby vineyard or large garden will add considerably to your requirements. Always overestimate what you will require. You might determine that you will need a well that can produce a minimum of 3 gallons per minute. That would give you 180 gallons per hour and 4,320 gallons per day.

You should have a holding tank of sufficient size to provide adequate water storage. In all new construction a water storage tank is required regardless of your well's production. If the country home you are considering does not have a water storage tank, I recommend strongly that you have one installed, no matter how well your well is producing. In addition to giving you a reserve of water for your personal needs, the tank may save your house. In the event of a fire it can take a while for a fire truck to get to you and chances are there are no fire hydrants nearby.
